Live Activities and the Dynamic Island
When an exam is hours away, the countdown appears on your iPhone Lock Screen by itself.
In the last stretch before a paper, you should not have to open anything.
What happens
When your next exam is less than 12 hours away, Exam Countdown puts a Live Activity on your Lock Screen showing the subject and the time remaining, ticking down. On an iPhone with the Dynamic Island, it appears there too.
It goes away by itself once the exam starts.
What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 16.1 or later. Live Activities are an Apple technology, and this is the one Exam Countdown feature that is iPhone-only. The Live Countdown Home Screen widget, which does much the same job, is on both iPhone and Android.
- Premium.
- Live Activities left on for Exam Countdown in Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Live Activities, and in the app's own settings.
Turning it off
If you would rather not have it, switch Live Activities off in the app's settings. Some people find a paper ticking down on their Lock Screen the night before is not a calming presence, and that is a completely reasonable call, and the widgets still work.
